Instructions for Use Select the appropriate sized instrument for the restoration being performed. The small, indicated by an “S” printed on each end of the handle, produces a contact approximately 1.5mm wide. The large, “L” printed on each end of the handle, produces a contact approximately 2.2mm wide.
Each instrument has a mesial and distal end clearly marked. When the PerForm tip is placed into the preparation, the printed “Mesial” or “Distal” should be maintained roughly parallel with the occlusal surface of the teeth. This will ensure that the tip is positioned to create a nicely rounded contact area.
PerForm should be pushed (distal) or pulled (mesial) to deflect the matrix band into contact with the adjacent tooth. The instrument should never be used as a lever to ‘pry’ the matrix band into position. Prying the instrument could result in tip fracture. Push or pull – NEVER PRY.
1. After matrix band placement, apply your preferred etch and bond following the manufacturer’sAdditionally, if you place a layer of flowable composite as a base, that should be completed prior to using PerForm. 2. Place an increment of heavier bodied composite up to the level of the pulpal floor. 3. Press the appropriate end of the PerForm instrument into this uncured layer, hold the instrument so that the printed “Mesial/Distal” text is roughly parallel with the occlusal surface of the teeth and either push or pull (never pry!) the instrument until the matrix band is deflected into firm contact with the adjacent tooth. 4. Place the curing light tip directly on the Fresnel lens of the PerForm tip and cure the composite for the recommended duration. 5. Rock the instrument slightly and lift it straight out of theDo not pry the instrument loose. 6. The cured composite will maintain the matrix band position in contact with the adjacentFill the void produced by the instrument tip with flowable composite, cure, and then complete the restoration with your preferred heavier-bodied composite. 7. Extremely deep restorations may require that additional composite be placed and cured to raise the gingival floor high enough for PerForm to place the contact at the ideal height.
